Great Pyramid of Giza

Of all the seven wonders of the ancient world, only the Great Pyramid of Giza still exist up to this day.  All the rest had been destroyed due to natural disasters.

The Great Pyramid of Giza was estimated to be originally at 481 feet in height.  This is approximately as high as a 40 storey building.  However, through the years, the stripping of the outer casing had also stripped down its height to 455 feet.

The Great Pyramid of Giza was created for the Pharaoh Khufu, as was told by Egyptian priests to the Greek historian Herodotus.  It was built with a workforce of 400,000 men and took 20 years to build.  Standing beside Khufu’s pyramid is the pyramid of Khafre, Khufu’s son.  The last of the pyramids is the pyramid of Menkaure, Khafre’s son.  Aside from these three monuments, three small pyramids were built for Khufu’s wives and a sphinx was also built beside Khafre’s pyramid.  But what was considered as the Great Pyramid of Giza is only the pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu.  It was the largest single building ever constructed.  And its status as such has remained for 3,800 years.  Even while it still exists today, it may not have been as beautiful and as tall as it was originally built.  Originally, it was covered with limestone casing that formed a smooth outer surface.  It was also said that some of its height was lost because of the stripping of these limestone casings.
