Create Your Own Blog or Join Writing Sites: Which One is Better?

By

If you have been writing online for quite some time now, you would notice that there are writers and bloggers who have accounts in several writing sites online. Some of them even have their own blog. But if you are to choose between having your own blog or join writing sites, which do you think is better?

Setting It Up

Here are a few key differences that you should know about. If you have your own blog, you are solely responsible for everything in it. Whether you know what you are doing or not will all show in how you design your website or blog. You will design your own site’s theme and you will decide on what feature your site will have. You will also be responsible on how you would monetize it. The good thing about it is you can join any ad program you want and earn from it. No one else will decide or tell you which ad program you should be joining, you are on your own in this decision making. So, basically, there is a greater learning process that you have to go through before you even start writing and publishing your first article or blog.

Create Your Own Website for Beginners

If you join writing sites, all you have to do is write articles. Designing your site and deciding on what theme you want with it is not an option. The features and themes of the writing site you joined are already predesigned by its admin. Even the monetization programs of the site are not up to you. You will be instructed to join their ad programs. In most cases, you need to have an account on their ad programs before you could earn. The good thing about joining writing sites is that everything in it is much simpler and the learning process is shorter.

Limitations

When you create a free blog, your webhost sets limitations on what you can do on your site especially if you are going to host it under their domain name. But limitations on your own blog are quite minimal even with restrictions from your webhost.

If you are running a professional blog, however, most of the limitations are lifted and you are going to run your blog with no limitations. You can set your own rules since you are the owner of the blog.

In writing sites, however, limitations can vary depending on how strict the site’s rules are. Some can be very strict while others can be very lenient. It will all depend on what writing site you have joined.

Maintenance of Your Blog or Profile

In maintaining your blog, you need to write on niche topics. Niche topics mean you would have a very limited topic on your blog but with a vast array of information on the particular topic. You would need to add entries frequently. The good thing about it is that the entries can be short and informal.

In maintaining your writing portfolio in a writing site, the entries do not need to be done on a daily or weekly basis. However, since you are writing articles, they at least need to be informative or entertaining.

Hi Nell, thanks. I did already submit the form but I'm not sure if I did it right. I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks again. Cheers.

Some years back it was understood that a maximum of one hundred links would be safe for a blogger blog. Right now I believe that blogger has a tighter restriction on advertizing.

Cheers! :)
